Automatic Case Picking

Order Release Module

The Order Release Module (ORM) is a patented system for fully mechanized case picking of full cases.

The system resembles a large flow rack with a number of unique distinctions:
  • Cases are automatically replenished in the buffer conveyors.
  • Cases are automatically ejected out of the buffer conveyors on demand in any sequence.
  • The buffer conveyors are powered in groups of six by a single motor using a specially patented method that utilizes both gravity and motor power. This means:
    • Almost any packaging type can be transported in the buffer conveyors without use of additional trays or totes.
    • The conveyors can be much longer than gravity based buffer conveyors.
    • All cases transport at the same speed. limiting line pressure.
    • All buffer lanes are identical, so they can be used for any product at any given time.
    • Simplicity by design.
  • The system is suitable for medium to fast moving products.
  • By utilizing length, width and height the system is very compact and well suited for installation in existing buildings.
  • The system is designed to be scalable, modular and to require minimal mechanical maintenance.

Application

The ORM is capable of sorting and delivering cases at high speed, but it is not standalone equipment. Other materials handling equipment is required to provide cases to the ORM and to transport cases to its final destination in addition to a solid warehouse control system. It can even be applied in combination with equipment suited for lower speed order picking  (e.g. miniloads, shuttles). Therefore the ORM is part of a total system that can be tailored to the specific needs of an end-user. It makes sense that DLS presents its solution on the market as a sub-system that can be purchased and integrated by capable system integrators.

The companies benefiting of this type of solution can be found in many branches. Specifically the ORM has been applied in grocery retail, beverage distribution, dairy distribution and production and mail sorting, but DLS continues to discover new areas where the need for a high speed case sorting buffer is needed.
